string of pearls

She pulls him by the hand and they dance in the rain.
Neither needs a wise friend, trying to explain
what convenience urges, or that love is harsh.
Only they are sure that they will win
and no one knows the sun shines on them.
So they smile and polish their string of pearls
until someone steps off the edge of the world.
And somewhere clouds descend on love,
but the golden sun still shines above;
he drifts to sleep on clouds so white
that somehow he makes the silent flight.
And in dreams of love, he forgets every pain.
She pulls him by the hand
and they dance in the rain.
